Christmas Cards for Northwood 2022 🎄

Today, December 10, Olivia’s Trust is dropping off 120 beautiful Hallmark greeting cards with a hand-written sentiment for the Christmas Cards for Northwood initiative.

Olivia’s Nanny Pye was a nurse at Northwood and remembered many residents did not have family to send them cards or gifts so this initiative is very dear to our hearts on many levels.

If you would like to participate, there will be a Jack 92.9 booth today outside the Rogers store at Mic Mac Mall from 10-1 or you can drop off at at Rogers stores, Jack 92.9 or Northwood offices (check out the Jack 92.9 page for more detailed information) 🎄

10 Years

How do you even begin to explain the loss of a child? You can’t. It’s as simple as that. There are no words…

Even after 10 years I still can’t articulate how Olivia’s death has affected me, her family, her friends or those close to her. It’s just not possible.

What I can tell you is how much she changed the lives of those who knew her during the 15 years we got with her…. Simply put, she changed our lives for the better.

All those who know her through reading or hearing “Olivia‘a Story” have also been changed. I’m told time and again that they share her story with others. She lives on in the hearts and minds of every single person she touched in whatever form. We hope Olivia’s kindness, compassion and lack of judgement is an example to everyone.

We can only hope that we have that much of an impact with the lives we live and the way we make others feel. Try to help in your community when and where you can. Reach out to others in need even when they don’t ask for help. Share what you have. It’s amazing what small gestures can have the largest impact.

In short, be like an Olivia ♥️

COVID 19 Donations

Here is the glass that started it all… Jym Line Glassware Ltd. created this glass as a fundraiser to help out in their community during this tumultuous time. Each glass is $10 (taxes include) of which $5 is being donated to local area organizations in East Hants where Jym Line is located.

The glass proved to be so popular, the first run SOLD OUT in a few hours on April 15 and Tom Adams, President is Jym Line was able to donate $535.00 to the Caring and Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank on April 16! Now that’s how it’s done! Way to go Tom 👊🏼 Tom has committed to printing more glasses and is currently working on reserving orders for the next run due by April 23.

Olivia’s Trust works closely with Jym Line as they are an ardent supporter of The Trust in all ways. The Trust has decided to match Jym Line’s donations to organizations in HRM, with a focus on Dartmouth as that is Olivia’s community. Our first donation of $535.00 will be to the St. Thomas More Food Bank in East Dartmouth. Our second donation is earmarked for P.A.C.T. (Parents and Children Together) in Cole Harbour.

If you would like to help these efforts please consider buying a glass (go to the Jym Line Glassware Facebook page for details on how to purchase a glass for yourself or someone else). You can also make donations directly to the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust with directions that your donation be reserved for COVID 19 relief and we will ensure that is where it goes.

Thank you and stay safe, Olivia’s Trust Team

Phoenix Youth Shelter Pizza Party and Cookie Decorating

Our 2018 Christmas giving did not stop with our senior community! We decided to get a little more personal with the younger generation. After a wonderful suggestion by Steve Murray, we reached out to the staff of Phoenix Youth Shelter and offered to host a pizza 🍕party and cookie decorating evening 😊. Olivia would love this!!!

On Sunday, December 16 the Trustees and volunteers brought pizza, chips, fruit and vegetable platters, juice, water and cookies along with all the fixings needed to decorate to Phoenix Youth Shelter in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We got to eat (thank you for the amazing ribs and cole slaw!) chat and share Olivia. We shared why we do what we do with some wonderful people. What a great time! We can’t even begin to explain what an honour it was. Thank you for your questions and the honest, open dialogue that followed.

A great big thank you goes out to Ragan Eagle of Sweet Eagle Bakery for donating the amazing cookies the staff and residents decorated. The delicious cookies were definitely a huge hit! We saw some pretty impressive decorating going on (there may have even been a friendly competition or two 😉)

We we also honoured to do up gift bags for the youth staying at the shelter so they have something just for them this Christmas season 🎄. We included a t-shirt and bracelet with Olivia’s Signature Tree in each bag along with some treats and day-to-day items like deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair ties, brushes, gloves, reusable water bottle and more! We also donated bus tickets, MacDonalds gift cards and Tim Hortons gift cards!

We love giving back to organizations that support our youth – it’s exactly where Olivia would want us to focus 💗.

Bissett Court Nursing Home Donation 2018

Nothing makes us happier at The Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust than to give back to our community! As part of our annual Christmas Giving 🎄Olivia’s Trust was thrilled to be able to donate needed items to the Bissett Court Nursing Home on Chameau Crescent in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

So often our seniors do not have everything they need while living in care. That is where Olivia’s Trust got to step in! We were given a list of items that are most needed on a day-to-day basis and were more happy to provide everything they asked for – and then some!

If you are searching for a place to do some good this giving season why not approach a local nursing home in your community and reach out to see what they may need. Your gesture, no matter how small can mean the world to someone 😊

Back-to-school Donation 2018

The Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust is so very happy to be able to donate 8 backpacks filled to the brim with school supplies to the Woodlawn United Church.

Each student will receive a backpack, zippered binder, 2 packs of loose leaf, graph paper, report cover, 4 duo-tangs, single subject and 3-subject notebooks, page dividers, scientific calculator, 16 GB USB, pens, pencils, liquid paper and a pencil case along with a custom “Olivia’s Signature Tree” water bottle. We are also supplying bus tickets to help kids in need get back and forth to school.

Olivia would be thrilled to know she is helping kids go back to school in style so they can have a great new school year!

Thank you to every single person who supports us through our fundraising efforts so we can continue to do “great things!” in Olivia’s memory. Her kindness and compassion lives on in each of us 💜
