Drum Roll Please…

Thank you to everyone who came out last night to volunteer, bowl and bid! Despite all the obstacles of Covid 19 restrictions we still raised $3,974.75! This money will be going back to our community as we make donations to organizations that support our youth, animals in need and those less fortunate.

There are so many we need to thank who come together to make this event a success. A special shout out to Nicole and Tom for their suggestions, time and continued support. Thanks to Steve, Courtnee, Jennifer and Jason for volunteering your time to help this event run so smoothly. Thank you Tom, Aly and Ragan for the bake table goodies. And thank you to Nicole and Courtnee for the plant table- it was an addition this year and a huge hit!

Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre Emergency Shelter Donation

The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre Emergency Shelter opened its doors January 2021 as a 25 bed emergency shelter. Now with the addition of 15 new beds, they have become the largest emergency shelter in Halifax!

Through the power of social media we heard they were in need of several items to be able to handle the increased occupancy and of course we responded immediately! We have donated over $500 worth of much needed wish-list items and hope others in our amazing community can donate as well.

Below is a list of some needed items:

  • Spring/Summer clothes for all genders
  • Footwear for all genders
  • Backpacks
  • Socks/underwear
  • Juice boxes
  • Individual snack items
  • Coffee grounds/tea
  • Reusable cups
  • Plastic utensils
  • Toothpaste/razors/feminine products

We realize we are in difficult times (this is the second year we have not been able to hold our major fundraiser), but if you can, please consider helping those less fortunate – just like Olivia always did ♥️

COVID 19 Donations

Here is the glass that started it all… Jym Line Glassware Ltd. created this glass as a fundraiser to help out in their community during this tumultuous time. Each glass is $10 (taxes include) of which $5 is being donated to local area organizations in East Hants where Jym Line is located.

The glass proved to be so popular, the first run SOLD OUT in a few hours on April 15 and Tom Adams, President is Jym Line was able to donate $535.00 to the Caring and Sharing Angel Tree Food Bank on April 16! Now that’s how it’s done! Way to go Tom 👊🏼 Tom has committed to printing more glasses and is currently working on reserving orders for the next run due by April 23.

Olivia’s Trust works closely with Jym Line as they are an ardent supporter of The Trust in all ways. The Trust has decided to match Jym Line’s donations to organizations in HRM, with a focus on Dartmouth as that is Olivia’s community. Our first donation of $535.00 will be to the St. Thomas More Food Bank in East Dartmouth. Our second donation is earmarked for P.A.C.T. (Parents and Children Together) in Cole Harbour.

If you would like to help these efforts please consider buying a glass (go to the Jym Line Glassware Facebook page for details on how to purchase a glass for yourself or someone else). You can also make donations directly to the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust with directions that your donation be reserved for COVID 19 relief and we will ensure that is where it goes.

Thank you and stay safe, Olivia’s Trust Team

Olivia’s Trust COVID 19 🦠Update

This is the time of year we excitedly put out a post announcing our upcoming annual Bowling Tournament and Silent Auction fundraiser. This event has always been held the Saturday after the May Victoria Day long weekend. While we have the alley booked for May 23rd, it is currently closed due the virus 🦠. We do not know if it will re-open by this date or what social distancing will look like at that time.

We will likely have to postpone or possibly cancel our event for the safety and well-being of our supporters. We are debating whether to run some of the components such as the ever popular Craft Beer, Wine and Spirit Board and a handmade quilt raffle. Stay tuned for updates.

Olivia’s Trust still plans to award a post-secondary scholarship to a student currently set to graduate from Prince Andrew High School in June 2020. Since schools are closed and we do not know when they will re-open, it may not be possible for students wishing to apply to get their applications in to Student Services by the May 15th deadline. Therefore, if you are a student or know of a student that will graduate this year and wish to apply for our scholarship, please send your essay along with 2 letters of recommendation directly to dale@livstrust.com for consideration.

Olivia’s Trust will soon be making donations to organizations in most need that meet our mandate. Once we have made our choices, another post will go out to let you know where your support is helping during these uncertain and challenging times.

Thank you and stay safe ~ Dale, Nicole and Tom

Bissett Court Nursing Home Donation 2018

Nothing makes us happier at The Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust than to give back to our community! As part of our annual Christmas Giving 🎄Olivia’s Trust was thrilled to be able to donate needed items to the Bissett Court Nursing Home on Chameau Crescent in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

So often our seniors do not have everything they need while living in care. That is where Olivia’s Trust got to step in! We were given a list of items that are most needed on a day-to-day basis and were more happy to provide everything they asked for – and then some!

If you are searching for a place to do some good this giving season why not approach a local nursing home in your community and reach out to see what they may need. Your gesture, no matter how small can mean the world to someone 😊

Back Pack Donation

Olivia’s Trust loves to help provide back-to-school gear!

This time we were able to donate the 38 remaining bags and some school supplies needed to make sure every one of the of 80+ kids registered with the Dartmouth Salvation Army get their very own backpack!

We think there will be some very happy kids who get to pick out their fancy new backpack and school supplies this afternoon!

Thank you to all the people who donate to the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust so we get to continue to do “great things!” in Olivia’s memory 💜

Back-to-school Donation 2018

The Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust is so very happy to be able to donate 8 backpacks filled to the brim with school supplies to the Woodlawn United Church.

Each student will receive a backpack, zippered binder, 2 packs of loose leaf, graph paper, report cover, 4 duo-tangs, single subject and 3-subject notebooks, page dividers, scientific calculator, 16 GB USB, pens, pencils, liquid paper and a pencil case along with a custom “Olivia’s Signature Tree” water bottle. We are also supplying bus tickets to help kids in need get back and forth to school.

Olivia would be thrilled to know she is helping kids go back to school in style so they can have a great new school year!

Thank you to every single person who supports us through our fundraising efforts so we can continue to do “great things!” in Olivia’s memory. Her kindness and compassion lives on in each of us 💜
