Olivia’s Story at LRHS

Words cannot express the appreciation we have for the students, staff, parents and concerned community members of Liverpool Regional High School.

The dedication Jeanie Rhodenizer and Todd Symes shows for their students is obvious and outstanding.  They truly care about the kids and it shows in their actions.

On December 3, 2015 four separate student presentations were given, one for each grade level, plus a parent/community session in the evening.

The respect, kindness and compassion shown by each and every person, both young and old was remarkable.

A lot of information was given about drug abuse by Constable James which was very well received. Anyone watching could see the attention the kids were giving to his presentation. This information portion was followed by the sharing of Olivia’s Story and the response by the students in particular was incredible!

The kids were listening intently and respectfully, there were tears and true compassion. Many came up to us at the end to share their own personal stories and to thank us. We even had kids bring other kids who missed their class session back to attend another grade level session because they knew the importance of hearing Olivia’s Story.  What more can we ask for?

All we can ask is that no other person make the same mistake that Olivia made. Let’s all do our part to end the nightmare of prescription drug abuse, addiction and overdose.

Keep the dialogue open and end the stigma!

Sharing Olivia’s Story

We believe the goal of the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust is simply to help others. We believe that one way is to share “Olivia’s Story”.  We also believe Olivia’s life should not be defined by how she died, but by how she lived.  Her death has, in the past, not been addressed by The Trust on the website. However, we realize were it not for Olivia’s death and her desire to help others The Trust would not have been created.  We believe the two are so intimately intertwined that to not acknowledge how Olivia died is not only a disservice to her but to those whose lives may be altered or saved by reading “Olivia’s Story”.

Please click our link to read “Olivia’s Story“.  Feel free to share her Story with friends, family and especially children of all ages in an age appropriate manner.  If you have any questions feel free to email Dale via the website: dale@livstrust.com.

Education and awareness are key to preventing similar tragedies.  We want to save another family from the utter devastation losing a child or loved one creates.  If even one life is changed in a positive way by reading “Olivia’s Story” then we will have made sure her death was not in vain.

Dale has spoken to schools and community groups, media outlets, politicians and various policing agencies about her experience.  She believes “Olivia’s Story” needs to be heard by everyone and anyone who will listen.  Too many lives, young and old are being lost to drug overdose and addiction.

Stigma is the greatest reason most families do not come forward to speak out for fear their loves ones will be thought of poorly.  Those who experiment with prescription pills do not think addiction or death will be the end result. By sharing “Olivia’s Story” we hope to alleviate the stigma associated with drug abuse/addiction and death.

Thank you

Compassion and Kindness Celebrates Olivia!

In honour of Olivia’s 19th birthday on October 23rd we will once again be asking for everyone who knew Olivia or have been touched by her story and the work of the Trust to participate in the 2nd “Compassion and Kindness Celebrates Olivia!” event!!!

You do not need to live in HRM, Nova Scotia or even Canada to participate!  Wherever you are in the world we ask you to commit a random act of kindness or compassion in Olivia’s name on October 23rd.

Last year some wonderful things were done such as donations of money and much needed supplies to local animals shelters, taking hot chocolate to the local Pee Wee hockey practice for all the players, a donation to a hospice in Florida and so many more!  It was an incredible amount of generosity in memory of an incredibly generous young lady who absolutely loved her birthday more than any other day of the year!

A Facebook Event will be created by the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust Page to be shared far and wide – lets see how big we can make the event this year!!!

If anyone is struggling to come up with an idea you are always welcome to make a donation to Olivia’s Trust and we will spread it among some organizations we would like to see benefit from Olivia’s generosity.

Much love and appreciation in advance to everyone who participates in their own way and please share your stories on our Facebook page if so inclined.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLIVIA – you are much loved and honoured ❤Olivia Jazz Hands

Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank Donation

We are so pleased to announce the most recent recipient of a donation from the Olivia Jollota Memorial Trust.

After listening to News 95.7 and hearing of the need, the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank received 4 backpacks complete with all the school supplies a student can want for a great year. The backpacks were selected for a girl and boy in elementary school as well as a boy and girl in middle or high school.

If you or anyone you know has the means and ability to donate school supplies and backpacks to this organization it would be greatly appreciated as they are still short of the 700 they expect will be needed this year for back to school in a few short days.

Our Story

Olivia was a wonderful young person who had many dreams and goals which she did not get the opportunity to accomplish. One of the main goals she had was to help others.

In light of her desire to help others we have created this Trust to give back to our community in memory of Olivia. The money raised through various fund-raising efforts will be donated back to our community in the form of scholarships at Prince Andrew High School and donations to other organizations that would have been important to Olivia such as animal shelters, youth groups and the IWK etc.

We always knew Olivia would do great things with her life, she still will, just in a different way!
